Quantity Surveyor
Sheffield based with travel to London
6-12 month contract, possibility of permanent role
A specialist height safety and access subcontractor with a number of major projects ongoing within the rail and airport sectors.

The Role:
The Quantity Surveyor will provide commercial support to the project director on several infrastructure projects we presently have running; maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and the Company’s objectives. They will liaise with customer representatives and other third parties on commercial issues including agreement of variations, claims and any additional payments.

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting
• Ensure robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at project level
• Ensure accurate cash flow reporting takes place
• Carry out cost management including forecasting
• Update the monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans
Processes
• Help ensure that internal commercial processes are adhered to
• Actively seek to improve processes and procedures
• Hold a good understanding of the processes and procedures used by any JV/Alliance that we are working within, and assist in their development and improvement
External Relationships
• Help ensure that any main contracts entered into have terms and conditions that are appropriate, with commercial risks identified
• Ensure that the supply chain is engaged appropriately with the correct contract terms and conditions
• Build and maintain good client relationships
• Be responsible for subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting
• Prepare applications for payment
• Liaise with the client, client representatives and other third parties on commercial issues, with a focus on agreement of variations, claims and additional payments
Internal Relationships
• Contribute towards effective interaction between the Commercial Team and the operational site teams
• Work with project manager to forecast predicted spend and cash recovery and ensure that both are kept in line with target
• Share best practice with others and be proactive in advising project team on costs and management of them

• Accurate monthly forecasting
• Ability to challenge resources and costs
• Maintain deadlines in line with monthly commercial calendar

Person Specification
Essential
• Previous experience of the construction industry
• HND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying
• Familiarity with ICE/NEC forms of contract and knowledge and understanding of Construction Law
• Previous experience of commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates and accruals calculations
• Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis
• Have knowledge and experience in estimation and cost analysis
• Excellent communication, numeric and computer literacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office
• Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines
• Ability to work effectively in a team and delegate, but also able to work on own initiative
• CSCS card
Desirable
• Experience of Network rail projects
• Experience as specialist subcontractor rather than MC
