About the Role
A well-established rail engineering and manufacturing business in Scunthorpe is seeking a dedicated and detail-focused Quality Inspector to join their team. The company specialises in the design and manufacture of high-integrity railway components, including couplers, bogies, and associated assemblies.
This role plays a key part in ensuring that all products meet rigorous industry standards and customer expectations, contributing to the business's strong reputation for quality and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out in-process and final inspections on railway components such as couplers and bogies
- Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, verniers, height gauges, and bore gauges
- Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications
- Identify and report non-conformances; assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Maintain accurate records of inspections and quality control checks
- Work closely with production, engineering, and quality assurance teams
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and relevant rail industry standards
- Support internal audits and customer inspections when required
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Experience in a similar Quality Inspector role within an engineering or manufacturing environment
- Proficiency with a variety of mechanical inspection tools and equipment
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Good communication and team collaboration skills
Desirable:
- Background in rail, aerospace, defence, or automotive sectors
- Familiarity with railway quality and safety standards
- Experience with CMM or digital inspection systems
- Internal auditing experience or relevant quality-related qualifications
